Jessica's thought about learning a new language

Expectations
My expectations of French was that I wasn't going to be able to understand the teacher and that she was going to go ahead and I was going to be stuck behind not understanding anything.
I thought I would be able to say the words in class but as soon as I got home I would forget them. I thought French was going to be a subject I wouldn't like and a subject that I wouldn't be able to do.

6 Months
After 6 months of speaking the French language I'm now seeing the easy side to it and I really like learning new words. Some words are really fun to say and some words even look like they sound. I think it's really fun to be able to guess what the teacher is saying and it's really cool that you can talk to your friends in French aswell.

Favourite Things So Far
My favourite things so far are learning about the traditions of the country. I like learning what words directly mean and not just how they're used in general. I like doing fun things with the language like singing and playing games. I think it's cool that you can understand the teacher and being able to understand things in French when I'm reading.

Hard
Although a lot of things in languages are easy/fun there are hard things aswell. Some hard things are: Having to remember what gender every word is. Its hard to speak with the French accent and it's sometimes really hard to remeber the spellings.

Rebecca' s thought on learning a new language

We started off thinking we wouldn't understand a thing about the language ,that we would be left behind ,that it would be hard ,that we wouldn't be able to pronounce the words. However six months on we think it is easy , fun, we can figure out what sentences mean and we think the pronunciation isn't hard. What a transition eh..
Our favourite things to do so far is singing, learning about all the traditions ,being able to figure out what the sentences mean without knowing the words , reading words and understanding them , finding out the origin of the words and being able to actually speak the language. That's from four girls that thought they would be left behind..
Even though we have been enjoying the language there are a few hard things such finding the gender of the words, being able to to get the accent right and we have found the spellings to be hard.

Aine's expectations of learning a new language

My expectations for learning a new language weren't very optimistic all I thought about was being left behind, not understanding,it being too hard.Honestly I was scared that I would say a word wrong and people would make fun of me . I was wrong I wasn't left behind, I did understand ,it was difficult at first studying a language but I did what miss told me to do ,play games ,talk to my self in german for an entire week whenever I walk up stairs I would count everyone around me could here "eins ,zwei ,Drei "and so on . I believe that is what helped me . If I said a word wrong the teacher would correct me and that was it the next time I'd say that word I'd say it right . Here I am 6 months on and it's easy ,simple I don't know what I was worried about.my favourite thing in german is learning the origin of words and reading words and knowing I understand them. I'm not going to lie german is hard accents aren't something I've ever been good at but I try and soon I'm sure I'll get it . If one was to ask me what my favourite German word was I would say without a doubt Erdmännchen little man of the earth or meerkats .
