- Be organised - Have a vocabulary copy or vocabulary section in your folder; Record the new vocabulary everyday and learn it; reuse the vocabulary you learn in every piece or any oral work. - Have an oral copy or an oral section in your folder; read often over your work. - Go over the work your teacher has corrected and note the mistakes and corrections; avoid making the mistakes again; unless you learn from your mistakes, your grades will not improve. - Tenses you need to know - these are the tenses you need to know for your leaving cert, sometimes some are less applicable to ordinary level. If you keep getting a verb wrong, go over it in detail. - Le présent de l'indicatif - Le futur simple; Le futur proche - Le conditionnel - Le passé composé ; l'imparfait; le plus-que-parfait - L'impératif - Le subjonctif présent - Comprehensions: know your question words in French; learn synonyms (words which have the same meaning); record and learn the vocabulary you look up - Essay writing: spend time reading the title and making sense of it; plan your ideas; make a vocabulary list of all the keywords; write a draft; read over the draft (take care of tenses, spelling; word order); rewrite your "perfect" essay. Please note we will be putting up extra advice on exam type questions later on. - Listen to French regularly. Use the Cds from your book or check out the resources on the ressources en ligne page. You can also access a French speaking channel on Sky (799) or UPC (825) - Take every opportunity to speak in class but also outside the classroom.
